Learn more about what to expect during a Practice Review. The accountancy and business profession is under unprecedented scrutiny. We're committed to supporting our members while fulfilling our responsibilities in the public interest. To deliver these goals, we must uphold professional standards and that is the main focus of ICAS Practice Review.

What is Practice Review?

Practice Review is a programme aimed at upholding professional standards and ensuring that ICAS practitioners maintain their reputation as trusted professionals.

Our main goal is to reassure ICAS practitioners that they meet the required professional standards and are applying appropriate quality management over their client engagements.

The reviews are designed to be consultative and helpful rather than prescriptive. The aim is to help practitioners navigate the many requirements they face, including legislation, professional standards, regulations and best practice.

There are some areas where regulations apply. From time to time, we may need to follow up on certain regulatory matters with our Authorisation Committee, but the majority of visits require no follow-up.

A Practice Review also provides an opportunity to meet a member of the ICAS team, discuss relevant matters and ask any questions. Reviewers will do their best to answer your questions, connect you to the right support or signpost you to appropriate resources. We work closely with colleagues across the wider Professional Standards team, including the Practice Support team, who provide valuable support to practitioners.

The visit programme has been in place since 2000. It was previously known as Practice Monitoring and, before that, Quality Review.

Over the years, acting as a sounding board for practitioners has become an important part of the process. Both our team and our firms continue to value these visits.
