Ethics is a mandatory part of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). All non-retired members must complete at least one hour of ethics CPD each year.

Below you’ll find more information about how to record and confirm your annual ethics CPD, as well as some useful resources to get you started.

Recording ethics CPD

As with all CPD, you're required to record your ethics-related activity in your annual CPD record.

You can use the ICAS CPD record template to plan and record your CPD activity, including your hour of ethics-related CPD. Alternatively, you can create your own record or follow the format maintained by your employer.

Confirming completion of ethics CPD

At the end of the year, ICAS will select a random sample of members and ask them to submit their records. If selected, you'll need to show that you have met the ethics CPD requirement and provide a copy of your record.

You'll be asked to confirm that you’ve completed the hour of mandatory ethics CPD when renewing your membership each year.

If you're unsure whether or not you are covered by the new requirement, please get in touch.

Useful ethics CPD resources

It doesn’t have to be attending an ethics course or buying ethics material. It could simply involve reading, viewing or listening to some appropriate ethics-related content which is freely available online.

Here are some useful resources:

All members are also entitled to five free hours of LumiQ podcasts – a new and exciting way to achieve your CPD with plenty of ethics content to get you started. Make sure to get your listening hours in before 1 May 2026.

If you're ever in doubt as to your ethical position, you can contact the Ethics Helpline Service

We’re also partnered with Protect to provide members and students with access to an independent whistleblowing advice helpline. This service offers free advice on whistleblowing and speaking up.

Alternatively, there is the ICAS Ethics Buddy Service which enables members with an ethical dilemma, where deemed appropriate, to have confidential, informal, discussions with an experienced member in order to explore their issue and assist them in considering how they might approach their dilemma.
