Jonny Jacobs CA awarded MBE for services to mental health
ICAS Vice President, Jonny Jacobs CA has been named in the King’s Birthday Honours list for his ongoing work in mental health, and has been appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
Jonny trained with KPMG and has held leadership roles across a number of recognised global brands. At pladis, the global snacking business and owner of McVitie’s and Godiva, he began his work in driving the wellbeing agenda and promoting the business benefits of positive mental health in the workplace. As the Executive sponsor, he led the Employee Mental Health and Wellbeing initiative across the UK and Ireland, which led to the nationwide “Let’s Talk” partnership with McVitie’s and mental health charity Mind. Jonny has led several social and purpose programmes across a number of organisations, including the Mental Fitness in Business strategy with ICAS.
His passion for creating positive cultural change led to Jonny being named One Young CA 2017. Since, he has gone on to be a Non-Exec of the Mental Health Foundation, the UK’s leading charity for everyone’s mental health and in 2023 joined ICAS Council.
Jonny Jacobs CA says:
“Being brought up in a working-class family in Glasgow where I had first-hand experience of the impacts of mental health and felt the barriers of social mobility as I grew up, it’s a huge honour to receive this MBE from His Majesty the King. That said, this award is certainly not about me, it’s in recognition of those who have supported me and the passionate teams and individuals who went over and above to deliver change and achieve positive impact. I’m proud of the work we’ve done in the mental health space, and while we’re moving the needle in the right direction there is still more to be done – and I remain committed as ever to continue to drive the agenda.”
Bruce Cartwright CA, CEO of ICAS says:
“I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside Jonny for over eight years now, and he remains a real change agent of good in the space of mental health and broader agendas. The energy, knowledge and passion he brings to improving mental health through his leadership and positive influence on corporate culture, both within the profession and beyond never fails to inspire. His work has had a significant impact, and on behalf of the ICAS team and all his fellow ICAS members we wish him huge congratulations on his MBE award.”
We also extend a huge congratulation to (John) Grant Macrae CA who received an OBE for services to charity. Grant is The Master of The Royal Company of Merchants of The City of Edinburgh and former Convener of ICAS’ Public Sector Committee.
