ICAS Cares welcomes John Kennedy as new Chair
The Board of ICAS Cares has appointed John Kennedy CA as the new Chair of the charity.
John is a retired partner of Cowan & Partners, Leith and was recently awarded an OBE in the New Years Honours list. John has sat on our board of trustees for over four years, including as Vice Chair for the last 18 months. We are delighted to see his dedication and commitment continue in his new role and look forward to working with him further.
John Kennedy CA, Chair of ICAS Cares, said:
“Taking on the role of Chair for ICAS Cares allows me to continue to contribute to a very worthwhile charity that supports past and present ICAS members, their dependents and future CAs who may face hard times. The charity can provide financial support, but it’s a lot more than that as we also provide emotional support and practical support. We have an excellent trustee board, working with a staff team who provide the direct practical and emotional support to our beneficiaries, and it’s a real privilege to take on the lead role and chair the charity.
“The charity relies on donations and legacies in order to continue to support those in need. That’s why I am grateful we have so many members who regularly contribute. Thank you.”

John was recently awarded an OBE in the New Years Honours list for services to Scouting and to Young People. He’s dedicated 46 years to scouting, starting off in Dalbeattie before moving to Edinburgh. In his early 20’s, he took on various roles, including a four-year term as Edinburgh’s International Commissioner. He later became Scottish Commissioner for seven years, overseeing program development and leading various events. Alongside this, John currently holds the role of Treasurer on the Scouts Scotland Board.
“I was honoured to receive an OBE in the King’s 2025 New Year Honours. I’ve been involved in various roles in Scouting throughout my adult life and to receive this award for services to Scouting and to Young People was a real delight.”
A thank you to our members
We offer our thanks to Ruth Adams CA, the outgoing Chair who kindly extended her term in office to smooth the transition from our predecessor charity the Scottish Chartered Accountants Benevolent Association (SCABA) to ICAS Cares. We would also like to thank all the ICAS members who support the work of ICAS Cares through their donations, either directly or through the annual membership renewal process. Without your generosity we wouldn’t be able to provide this valued service for those members who require our support when it is needed most.
How to contribute
The charity relies on the generosity of the ICAS community to continue assisting those in need. Learn how you can show your support.
