This report investigates the perceptions of different groups connected to the audit function regarding the key skills and competencies required for auditing; to consider how these may have changed over time; and, in so doing, to examine differing practice-based understandings of the operation and significance of auditing. Views of audit partners in public practice, audit committee members, users of financial statements, regulators and audit quality inspectors, academics, and early career chartered accountants in audit practice were captured through focus groups discussions held in several European cities.
