Overview
This course will look to cement the learning acquired in Finance for non-finance managers - essentials and build on that learning. Through the use of exercises you will better understand how accounts are produced, what some of the more technical terms might mean (intangible assets, Goodwill), why cash management is so fundamental to an organisation, what is included in an Annual Report and how to interpret a company through the use of ratio analysis.
Who should attend
This course is tailored for non-finance professionals who don’t have a background in finance, but who want to develop a greater understanding of accounting basics. Suitable for managers at all levels. It will also develop skills gained through attending Finance for non-finance managers - essentials.
What you will learn
You will gain a deeper understanding of the key principles, including:
- The key concepts that underpin accounting, including the ‘matching’ or ‘accruals’ principle and why this means cash and profit are typically different
- An understanding, and calculation, of the key ratios used by management and analysts to interpret a set of accounts
- An introduction to double entry bookkeeping using debits and credits simply to understand the concepts and associated terminology. It is not expected that delegates will become proficient in double entry bookkeeping
- A walk through some of the key aspects of published accounts (an actual report and accounts is used as a reference point)
- Reference will be made throughout the course to the judgements required in preparing a set of accounts and the financial risks involved in running a company e.g. profit manipulation, insolvency!
