Five simple habits for smarter studying
Balancing your studies, work and social life can feel like a juggle at times but improving your study habits can help you to stay focused, manage stress and achieve the results you hoped for.
Whether you’re just starting out or you’re further into your studies, these five simple habits will help to set you up for success.
1. Plan your time
Use the example study timetable in your Course Introduction module to break the course down into manageable chunks and dedicate specific study time to each. Use your calendar to create your timetable and plan what you’re going to do each day.
Prioritise your revision based on your strengths and weaknesses. You’ll get to know these as you work through assessment practice questions and mock assessments. A well-structured plan helps you to stay organised, reduce last-minute revision and cover all the necessary material before your assessment.
2. Make the study guide your own
Taking notes is a helpful habit for retaining information. You don’t need to start your notes from scratch, the study guide and covers the key topics and concepts for the course. You can download the study guide and add your notes as you work through the course, during workshops or revision.
3. Study together
While self-study is important, studying with peers can also be helpful. By studying with a classmate, you can discuss challenging topics, share different perspectives and test each other’s understanding.
4. Go the extra mile and ask ‘why?’
Rather than simply memorising facts and formulas, challenge your knowledge by asking ‘why?’ A curious mindset will help you retain information and solve problems more creatively, both of which are essentials skills for a CA.
5. Reach out
The journey to becoming a CA can be challenging, so it’s important that you ask for help when you need it. Your tutors are here to help with challenging topics or advice – all you need to do is reach out using the course Discussions.
We also offer wellbeing support, available to you whenever you need it. You can learn more about this in the Wellbeing Fundamental.
The CA qualification is no small feat, but by developing these five simple habits, you can approach the challenge more confidently. These habits will not only support you in your studies but will also serve as a solid foundation for your career as a CA.
