You said, we're doing: Feedback from the November 2022 member survey
November 2022 member survey: How we're responding to your key priorities
In November 2022, we undertook one of our regular surveys of member views. We use the insights you provide to inform our understanding of the issues which matter most to you and to help shape our thinking. We also use the insight to structure our strategic planning for the years ahead.
Your opinions matter to us. Sharing your feedback is a chance to shape the organisation. Letting us know your views helps us to improve our services and enhance your membership.
Here’s what we’re doing in response to your latest feedback.
You said, we’re doing
You said you feel ICAS has the influence to lobby and act in the public interest
We strive to act in the public interest and build trust in the accountancy profession. In any given year, we collaborate with fellow professional bodies, standard-setters, regulators and governments, placing the public interest first, and representing our members’ views and protecting their interests.
In March we responded to a UK Government consultation paper which set out new proposals to reform the regulation of the insolvency profession. We also responded to a range of exposure drafts from UK and international bodies, the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants, the Financial Reporting Council, and others. All our consultation responses and commentary are published on icas.com.
In 2022 ICAS was once again a key voice in matters related to taxation, promoting the interests of our tax-adviser members, pushing for improved standards and regulations, whilst always promoting the public interest.
We also regularly engage directly with the Scottish Parliament on a range of issues - sharing expertise and insight to help drive debate and shape policy.
And, as the world around us all changes, we strive to advocate for an ethical and robust finance and accountancy profession. Our recent open letters to the UK’s two new Prime Ministers called for audit reform and action on sustainability and tax. Our experts commented as 2022’s mini-Budget and Autumn Statement were published, with continued calls for action in key areas.
You said that maintaining your mental wellbeing is a priority
We’ve made a long-term commitment to mental fitness. We aim to open up conversation, provide support and continue breaking down the stigma surrounding mental wellbeing issues.
Our 2022 insight series focused on bringing you expert insight and practical guidance around the theme of mental fitness and exploring its impact on our profession today and in the future. Our recent event with Alastair Campbell and Fiona Miller explored the important impact of wellbeing on business performance and the crucial role of leaders in changing cultures and supporting employees.
We regularly feature wellbeing related insights in CA Magazine, guiding you through topics including financial abuse, mental agility and unblocking barriers to performance.
We will continue to highlight resources to help members and students learn more about wellbeing-related issues, on topics including resilience and dealing with stress, with signposting to support and assistance.
And within ICAS, we’re aiming to increase our ability and expertise around mental health. All colleagues recently received training on understanding mental health, enabling us to better understand the wellbeing needs of our members and students.
You said that you value the opportunity to attend our broad range of in-person and online events
Our free face-to- face events provide members and students with the opportunity to gain fresh insight alongside the networking and interaction that are often so crucial for success.
From helping international ICAS communities to network through events around the world, to our UK events in prestigious venues including the Tower of London and Edinburgh’s Signet Library, we work hard to help you connect and stay informed.
Our free online events programme provides cutting-edge knowledge and insight, thought-provoking conversation on today’s key issues and opportunities, and delves deep into technical updates and developments.
In October 2022, our award-winning flagship event, the CA Summit, returned. The event gave attendees the opportunity to hear from some of the best and brightest minds over three days. Speakers from the worlds of finance, business and academia delivered thought-provoking topical debate and expert insight on diversity, sustainability and the post-pandemic outlook.
Also free is our suite of Professional Development webinars, provided in conjunction with our training partner BPP Professional Development. These webinars provide the perfect opportunity to connect with industry professionals, share insights and discuss current trends.
