Inside ICAS: June 2021 update from the Office Bearer team
An update from the Office Bearer team on what’s been happening at ICAS over the past month.
President Bruce Pritchard CA, Deputy President Indy Hothi CA and Vice President Clive Bellingham CA bring you a monthly round-up of ICAS news.
Bruce Pritchard CA, ICAS President
“I was very pleased to see that the latest figures from Edelman Trust Barometer show that trust in ICAS as a professional body has increased in 2021 to 78% from 75% in 2019. Trust in accountancy in Scotland has also increased from 67% to 82%.”
Indy Hothi CA, ICAS Deputy President
“It is fantastic to see ICAS being shortlisted in three categories of the memcom 2021 Excellence Awards this month. The CA Summit, use of data and insights for Member personas and CA magazine are all recognised in the industry awards for communication and engagement activity by professional bodies. Winners will be announced in September.”
Clive Bellingham CA, ICAS Vice President
“ICAS has been supporting Pride month and the LGBT+ community in the UK throughout June. Our Championing Unique Perspectives series featured Lucas Alexander-Crichton CA who discussed his journey of self-realisation, the stress of hiding his authentic self and the importance of being an ally.”
Other news and updates
Registrations opened this month for the CA Summit, ICAS’ immersive digital conference which will be held in October. The event, which is free to attend for ICAS Members, brings together thought leaders and industry experts from around the world to share, explore and discuss the latest trends and their impact on our industry.
For this month’s edition on the CA Agenda Podcast, Indy Hothi CA sat down with Mardi McBrien, the Managing Director of the Climate Disclosure Standards Board (CDSB). As the annual UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) draws closer, Mardi shared her predictions for the conference, the considerations companies need to make to reach net zero, and how CAs can help save the planet.
Sustainability is a theme which ICAS focused on throughout June. A thought leadership piece highlighted how the Green Finance Education Charter can bring the principles of green finance and sustainability into the mainstream. And as more organisations commit to becoming net zero, a feature gave insight into what this term means. Some of the key questions of the climate debate were also explored by the ICAS Sustainability Panel in our webinar, ‘Climate Change - From Reducing Emissions to Going Net Zero’.
June also saw the publication of ICAS’ 2020 Greenhouse Gas Report, highlighting a significant emissions reduction of 101 tonnes of CO2e, or 34%, compared with the 2019 reporting period. This is largely due to reduced energy consumption and travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amongst our other webinars in June were events on topics including ‘Spring Tax Update Part 3’, ‘Corporate governance and stewardship – what you need to know’ and ‘CAs in arts and culture’. Two 'Meet the President' webinars were held with the Grampian and Highlands Area Networks where Bruce Pritchard CA was delighted to introduce himself to local Members, set out his plans for the year ahead and share how ICAS is supporting small firms and SMEs.
Finally, ICAS also hosted a webinar with the British Business Bank and UK Finance on the financial support measures required to help businesses exit the pandemic and stay solvent.
That’s all for this month’s round-up. Look out for next month’s update towards the end of July.
