ICAS signs up as Access Accountancy signatory
As part of our ongoing commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion we have become a signatory of Access Accountancy, a collaboration of more than 25 professional bodies and firms dedicated to improving access to the accountancy profession in the UK.
The initiative aims to promote diversity across the industry to counteract the fact that talented and ambitious applicants from lower socio-economic backgrounds are more likely to be overlooked for roles in favour of those from wealthier backgrounds.
Through promotion of the varied routes into accountancy, Access Accountancy helps to ensure that skilled young people have an equal chance of accessing the profession. Member firms and bodies pledge to provide valuable work experience placements to help those who would otherwise be excluded from pursuing the career.
Becoming a signatory is affirmation of ICAS’ continued commitment to activities which ensure the profession is open to everyone. Our work to broaden awareness and access to accountancy, no matter what a person’s background, includes sharing the routes to become a Chartered Accountant with school and university students, and supporting academically talented young people from disadvantaged communities through the ICAS Foundation.
As a partner of the initiative, we commit to meeting targets set by Access Accountancy for delivering change and opening up access to a career in accountancy for everyone.
Our ongoing commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is a key focus for ICAS. We recognise the benefits of having a diverse membership and that widening diversity is an essential facet of a modern and global profession. Through our Guthrie Group, we are ensuring that the adoption, promotion and embedding of a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion is a priority for ICAS.
