From struggle to strength: Celebrating LGBT+ heritage
We’re proud to be an ally organisation and celebrate LGBT+ History Month, a time for us and members to look at the impact of this movement, and how it shapes our society today.
Understanding LGBT+ History Month and why it matters
LGBT+ History Month is an annual observance that celebrates the rich history, struggles and triumphs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. It is a time to reflect on the progress made in the fight for equality, honour those who have paved the way and acknowledge the challenges that still exist.
Why we care
Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) is a core part of our work at ICAS. Our EDI committee is passionately dedicated to amplifying the voices of individuals from all backgrounds, cultures, and walks of life.
Participating in LGBT+ History Month is not just about acknowledging a specific community's past. It's a call for inclusivity, acceptance, and understanding. By learning about and appreciating the contributions of LGBT+ individuals throughout history, we promote a more compassionate and equitable society.
Embracing diversity enhances our collective understanding of the human experience, fostering empathy and breaking down stereotypes. LGBT+ History Month invites everyone to join in recognising the importance of equal rights, social justice, and the continual pursuit of a world where everyone can live authentically.
We launched our new three-year EDI strategy 2024-2027 in January. The strategy aims to build on everything we have achieved since we published our first ever EDI strategy in 2020 and is a renewed commitment to achieve even more.
Our members' stories
We believe in amplifying the voices of our diverse community, including our vibrant LGBT+ members. In past articles, we've shared compelling stories that highlight the unique experiences, challenges and accomplishments of individuals within our organisation.
These narratives serve as powerful testaments to the strength and resilience of our community. By sharing these stories, we aim to inspire, educate and foster a sense of unity among our members, employees and supporters.
