Amjad Hassan named 2020 One Young CA
Amjad Hassan CA, Restructuring Manager, EY Edinburgh, has been named this year’s One Young CA.
The announcement was made at yesterday’s CA Summit, ICAS’ digital conference.
Amjad was selected as the overall winner of the Top 100 Young CAs competition because he has demonstrated business excellence and the highest standards of ethical conduct, integrity, and civic and social responsibility.
Amjad will represent ICAS and the chartered accountancy profession at the One Young World Summit in Munich in April. The summit brings together inspiring young people, from across the globe, who are committed to making a positive difference.
ICAS Chief Executive, Bruce Cartwright CA, said:
“I would like to congratulate Amjad on his award. Amjad was a stand-out candidate from the outset. He is magnetic, well presented and his passion and pride for being a CA was very evident throughout the whole judging process.
“Amjad has been supporting his local community in these unprecedented times and it is evident that his values and morals are aligned to the ethics of ICAS.
“I am confident Amjad will be a great ambassador for ICAS and the wider profession in the coming years.”
Amjad, who is a Restructuring Manager at EY and graduated as a CA with ICAS in 2018, was the first person in his family to go to university. He decided to pursue a career in accounting and this inspired his four brothers to follow in his footsteps, having witnessed his enthusiasm.
Amjad is an advocate of diversity within the workplace and an active member of mental health and wellbeing groups. He is also actively involved in the community – organising and supporting initiatives such as blood donation drives, and helping the vulnerable, especially within the Asian community.
Amjad said: “"Being named ICAS' One Young CA 2020 means that I can take my advocacy of wellbeing, diversity and inclusiveness in the workplace to next level.
Representing CAs across the World at the One Young World Summit, I am excited to learn about what other young leaders are doing to contribute to sustainable changes within their local communities and how I can bring these learnings back home to drive change in my organisation and our profession.
“It is an incredible honour to be this year’s One Young CA, I am grateful for this recognition. I would like to thank my partner, my colleagues and mentors for believing in me and for always supporting me in my efforts to continue growing both personally and professionally.”
