Well Together inspiration from ICAS Member Matt Gorrie CA
Well Together participant Matt Gorrie CA shares his ideas, insights and inspiration for getting outdoors and staying active.
Introduce yourself:
I’m Matt Gorrie CA, I live in Edinburgh and I’m a lecturer at the University of Strathclyde.
How do you like to get outdoors, keep fit and stay active?
I enjoy walking, running and outdoor swimming. Living on the east side of Edinburgh means there are so many nice places to get out and about.
Tell us about your favourite place to exercise.
I live between my two favourite places: Holyrood Park and Portobello Beach. Great areas to be in.
What inspires you to get outdoors, keep fit and stay active?
With the current environment, a lot of it is mental health. Finding the time to get outside is really important to balance yourself.
How do you fit exercise around your work/family schedule?
I wish I could give some great tips, but honestly it is very difficult sometimes. I think you have to promise to yourself to take some time each day to exercise.
Has the way you exercise changed during COVID-19/lockdown?
Yes, I used to enjoy running and walking with others, but that’s been quite difficult lately.
Do you have any fitness hints and tips to encourage and inspire others?
Not every run is going to be a fast run, or a good run, but getting out there is a win.
If lockdown wasn’t a thing, where in the world would you like to go for a run, wheel, walk, cycle or swim?
I would love to get back to Lanzarote. It's an excellent place for training with a really good and supportive community of athletes.
Which ICAS Strava Club are you a member of?
What’s your Strava profile ID should CAs in your area want to follow you?
