Well Together inspiration from ICAS Member Craig Maxwell CA
Well Together participant Craig Maxwell CA shares his ideas, insights and inspiration for getting outdoors and staying active.
Introduce yourself:
I’m Craig Maxell CA. I live in Auchinloch, just outside Glasgow. I'm a Partner with Mazars in Scotland and also Chair of the ICAS Glasgow and West Area Network.
How do you like to get outdoors, keep fit and stay active?
Mainly through running around my local area, chasing after my two young kids and 18 holes of golf when I get the chance. I would like to do more as I used to swim and cycle too, but that was before the kids.
Tell us about your favourite place to exercise.
In a previous life, when I lived in Sydney, going for a run or a swim at the beach as the sun came up was pretty special and hard to beat.
What inspires you to get outdoors, keep fit and stay active?
Its all about balance and I just feel better, mentally and physically, when I exercise regularly. To keep me honest and motivated I usually need to sign up for a specific challenge, with nothing on the horizon at the moment I am looking forward to joining the Well Together challenge.
How do you fit exercise around your work/family schedule?
Usually early morning starts before the kids are up and/or the work emails start.
Has the way you exercise changed during COVID-19/lockdown?
I feel like I need to exercise more and ensure I plan it in, as working from home full-time you have less movement built into your average day.
Do you have any fitness hints and tips to encourage and inspire others?
Other than signing up for a challenge that keeps you focused on a set goal (such as #ICASWellTogether), have a training buddy. There's more chance you’ll go for that run if you’ve arranged to go with someone else (when coronavirus restrictions allow).
If lockdown wasn’t a thing, where in the world would you like to go for a run, wheel, walk, cycle or swim?
A little trip back to Sydney and Manly Beach would be nice.
Which ICAS Strava Club are you a member of?
