The CA magazine: October 2019
Robert Outram, Editor of The CA, rounds up what's inside the September issue of the magazine.
Last month, ICAS celebrated the achievements of the three young, talented category winners in the Top Young CAs 2019 at an inspiring event in London. All three feature on The CA’s front cover for the October issue: FinTech entrepreneur Gareth Lewis CA, Johnston Carmichael’s Colleen Welsh CA and Hamisha Mehta CA of international food group pladis, the overall winner of the One Young CA award. You can read an interview with Hamisha and a report from the Future Generation event in the latest issue.
Also in October’s magazine, the latest article in the CA Agenda series features an interview with Paul Druckman, one of the accountancy profession’s leading thinkers, on how corporate reporting – and the role of the CFO – needs to change to address companies’ social and environmental responsibilities and help restore trust in business.
We look at how technology is changing the way accountancy practices work, and also report from panel discussions in London and Glasgow on the opportunities created by cloud-based applications and automated processes.
It’s hard to avoid Brexit-related topics these days and we look at two: the impact of leaving the EU on small business finance, and also the proposal to set up “free ports” to stimulate trade and investment.
We also look at the latest trends in employee benefits, from low-cost payday loans to egg freezing. Our Wealth Management feature, meanwhile, focuses on the specific issues around managing family assets.
The Q&A profile features accountancy practitioner Hannah Flook CA, and the Last Word – on the Green Finance initiative and the part ICAS is playing in it – comes from Meg Burns CA.
