The CA magazine: November 2019
Robert Outram, Editor of The CA, rounds up what's inside the November issue of the magazine.
The theme for the November issue of The CA magazine is “putting members first” and throughout the magazine we look behind the new look and refreshed brand at ICAS, to explain the thinking behind the changes. We talk to Members Board Chair Bruce Pritchard CA about the Board’s enhanced role and ambitious programme, and you can also find out more about the changes at icas.com, the launch of CA Connect and why the “member value proposition” is at the heart of it all.
Also in this month’s magazine, we meet Angus Cockburn CA, CFO at services group Serco, and hear about the challenges of coming into a company when its business model appears to have gone awry. You can find out more about the turnaround at Serco in this interview.
Evelyn Wilkins profiles two CAs working in very different organisations – Alistair Connal of tech giant Google in New York and Bradley Delamare, CEO of Tank Stream Labs in Sydney – who describe how they see technology affecting all of our lives.
The Practice Special Report for 2019 looks at what the year has been right for the leading accountancy firms, and includes the “league tables” showing how the top players are positioned.
“Trust” is one of the key themes for The CA Agenda. In the run-up to Sir Donald Brydon’s initial report on the effectiveness of statutory audit, we take a look at different views on how audit and assurance can play a key role in building greater public trust in business.
Other topics in the November issue include how to realise the value in a business when it’s time for the owner to move on, and the lessons so far from the Making Tax Digital initiative. The Q&A features Steph Williams CA, who works with ANZ Bank in Manila, and the Last Word comes from Virgin Holidays’ Sumati Sharma CA.
Finally, this month’s magazine sees the last column from one of our longest-serving contributors, Angus McCrone. We wish him well.
