The CA magazine: February 2019
Robert Outram, Editor of The CA, rounds up what's inside the February issue of the magazine.
There’s a different look for the front cover for February’s edition of The CA. This month we are promoting the Proud to be a CA campaign and in the magazine you can read accounts from leading members from a range of different fields, explaining why they are “Proud to be a CA” and what their professional qualification means to them.
Also in this issue, we ask: what kind of skills are you going to need to acquire or develop this year? What’s best practice in terms of assessing your professional development needs and creating a plan for the year? And how can ICAS help?
Technology is one of the defining issues for business in today’s world and we look at two ways in which it is generating questions for finance professionals. First, how can governments hold international tech giants, typically selling their services online, accountable for paying their fair share of tax? Nick Huber assesses the UK’s proposed Digital Services Tax.
Secondly, Ian Harper examines the challenges in funding tech start-ups that have a tendency to burn through cash as quickly as you can raise it.
We also celebrate the many CAs who work in the charitable sector – with challenges at least as great as those in the private sector. And we also explain what the potential reforms outlined at the end of last year, for the large audit market and for the Financial Reporting Council, could mean for the profession.
Your February issue of The CA also features a Q&A with consultant Sarah Smart; Career Clinic advice on starting your year with ambition; and David Chassels CA has the Last Word.
