The CA magazine: December 2018 / January 2019
Robert Outram, Editor of The CA, rounds up what's inside the December / January double issue of the magazine.
The December/January issue of The CA features an interview with Calum Paterson, Managing Partner of private equity investors SEP and Chairman of the BVCA, the body that speaks for the venture capital and private equity sector.
Calum talks to The CA about the sector’s contribution to the economy and society, the way it has evolved over the last few years and (guess what) the potential impact of Brexit.
Also in this issue, 10 years after the global financial crisis, Ian Fraser looks at the potential risks that could spark the next panic and at how resilient the financial system will be when and if that happens. Lessons should have been learned - but have they been?
One of the biggest personal challenges, for many CAs, is how to restart a professional career after taking time out, whether the period of absence was to raise a young family, care for a relative or any other reason. The pace of change in accountancy is such that starting again after just a few years can be daunting - but increasingly, help, advice and new routes back into work are available.
The December / January issue also focuses on the Food & Drink sector, as it faces change on a number of fronts: technology, changing public expectations and regulations; and the uncertain implications of the UK’s departure from the EU.
We also feature a Q&A with Vistra’s Patricia White in Guernsey; reports from the Insolvency & Restructuring Conference and the joint ICAS/Canadian symposium on the Future of Assurance; and reports from ICAS events in Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
