The CA magazine: April 2019
Robert Outram, Editor of The CA, rounds up what's inside the April issue of the magazine.
The April 2019 issue of The CA features not one CA on the cover, but three: Hugh Shields, Alison Cornwell and David Nussbaum. They were the three keynote speakers at the launch of the CA Agenda, a new initiative from ICAS, which saw its launch at St Paul’s Cathedral in March.
The Agenda series of events will focus on three crucial and interlinked topics that present huge opportunities and equally huge challenges for the accountancy profession: Technology, Trust and Talent. Read more about what the three speakers had to say in this issue.
Also in the April issue, we profile ICAS President-Nominee Mike McKeon CA ahead of the AGM this month. Mike talks about how the global financial crisis was his spur to become more actively involved in ICAS and the debate around account and auditing, and also about how flying a plane can be a welcome distraction from piloting a FTSE 100 business.
Our Energy Special looks at the UK’s offshore oil and gas industry and assesses the impact of the ongoing transfer of assets from the global majors to – potentially – hungrier and more ambitious independent operators. We also look at the big picture in terms of energy and ask: how long will fossil fuels continue to dominate the energy agenda?
In the light of recent corporate failures large and small, we ask insolvency practitioners what lessons they have learned about the reasons why businesses go under. In his City Column, Angus McCrone analyses the story behind one of the Stock Market’s best-performing stocks; and the Q&A this month features Koosha Kowsari, the CA who wants to give the British barbecue a South American flavour.
You can see all this, plus regulars like new appointments, Career Clinic and your update on technical issues in the April issue of The CA.
