How your students will switch to our new logbook
Learn more about how your students will switch to our new logbook and which students can apply to remain on the current logbook.
Through our Strategy 2030, we’re redefining learning at ICAS. As part of this, we’re simplifying the logbook and the processes around it.
The new logbook, which launches on 15 August, will be found on Advantage, our new home for everything students need throughout their training. And with its new, user-friendly portal it will be easier to log hours, view progress and see what needs attention.
Students’ current time logged will transfer
Students will still be required to log a total of 450 hours of Relevant Practical Experience. However, the time they’ve recorded so far on the current logbook will transfer to the new logbook and count towards their overall total.
Supporting the switchover
All current students (registered with ICAS before 5 June 2023) will switch to the new logbook on 15 August – unless they meet the criteria to apply for an exception (see below).
We’ll be in touch with more details nearer the launch date and will ensure that you and your students are supported every step of the way with training videos, user guides and drop-in sessions.
How students can apply to remain on the current logbook
We're encouraging all students to switch to the new logbook, so they can benefit from its simplicity and improved user experience. However, students can apply for an exception to remain on (and complete) the current logbook if they meet the following criteria:
- They have passed Test of Professional Expertise and Public Trust and Ethics.
- Their student training contract end date is before 30 September 2023.
- More than 80% of competencies in their current logbook are either completed and signed off by their employer, or completed and submitted for approval by their employer.
- Their time record is up to date at the point of applying for your exception to remain on the current logbook.
- They have already notified your employer’s counselling member that you intend to remain on the current logbook.
If a student meets all of the criteria above and wishes to apply for a logbook exception, they must do so by 15 August 2023 by completing this application form.
We’ll confirm whether their application has been successful by 12 September.
We'll be sharing this information about the new logbook, and applying to remain on the current logbook, with students through the July edition of our CA Student email newsletter.
